APC Inaugurates 63-Member Campaign Committee For Osun Election

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 63-member campaign committee on Osun State governorship election schedule for September 22, 2018.

Inaugurating the committee in Abuja on Thursday, the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole charged the committee to aggressively mobilize members of  public from the nooks and crannies of the State to keep faith and vote for the party in the forthcoming election so that the various landmark accomplishments of the outgoing Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola would be sustained.

To head the ad hoc committee is the Kano State Governor Abdulahi Ganduje. And he would be ably assisted by Governor Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State, Oshiomhole stated.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment to frustrate efforts of political parties that would be participating in the forthcoming Osun State gubernatorial election to buy votes and so compromise its fidelity in any way.

The commission will not hesitate to prosecute anybody or group found to violate relevant provisions of the electoral acts. Offenders he said face either five hundred thousand in fine, one year jail term or both.

This was made known to journalists in Osun State by Stephen Ojewande, INEC's deputy director of public education and publicity ahead of the election.

He said political parties caught indulging in any act of vote buying during the election would be heavily sanctioned because relevant section of the electoral act frowns at such.

Recall that there were allegation of massive vote buying during the recently conducted governorship election in Ekiti State by observers.

Candidate of the ruling party APC and former minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi won the election in 12 of the 16 local governments areas of the state and is being challenged by the defeated candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Professor Olusola Eleka at the election tribunal sitting in Ado-Ekiti.

Both parties are reported to be ready with their legal teams in preparation for legal fireworks that may ensue any moment from now.
