Rivers state police command on Wednesday, August 15, paraded 35 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt, the capital of the state.

The NAIJ.com regional reporter in Port Harcourt, Tony Ihunwo, who witnessed the parade, said that one of the suspects, Uchenna Chinaka, a driver of a bus carrying 15 passengers who were kidnapped on Wednesday, August 8, along the Elele axis of Ikwerre local government council area of the state but were later rescued by a crack team of anti-kidnapping unit of the police on Friday, August 10, was among those paraded.

In an interview with NAIJ.com during the parade, Chinaka, denied conniving with the abductors, adding that he ran into the gang of kidnappers around 10pm while returning to Port Harcourt from Abuja.

He said that when they ambushed them they ordered him out of the bus and drove off into the bus.

The driver further explained that three of the passengers who managed to escape from the kidnappers met him at the Elele police station where he was making a report about the incident.

He tried to deny the allegations earlier made by some of his distraught passengers that before they ran into the ambush he made several calls on his cell phone to unknown persons.
