19 killed, including children, as bus conveying migrants crashes in Turkey – media

After what looked like a safe crossing into mainland Europe for some migrants from the turbulence of their respective regions and across the choppy Mediterranean water then the bus in which they were travelling was involved in an accident.

Media sources in Turkey have reported that at least 19 people, including children, died after a truck carrying migrants overturned in Izmir province, western Turkey.

Eleven people were also injured in the crash.

The vehicle was allegedly transporting illegal migrants from Aydin province.

However, Turkish authorities are yet to release any information on the victims’ nationalities.

Turkey became one of the main launch points in 2015 for hundreds of thousands of migrants taking the sea route to the EU.
