I'm the only rapper in Nigeria right now - boasts rapper Yung6ix

When the chips are down it is sometimes important to blow your own trumpet after all like the proverbial Lizard which jumps down from the high walls and chooses to praise itself by nodding its head to such accomplishment if nobody will.

Nigerian rappers have been known to make statements that show they are the best thing to happen to music. Perhaps this is a strategy on their part to get their fans to believe it too.

Nigerian rapper Onome Onokohwomo, popularly known as Yung6ix, started to get noticed in the music industry after his cover to fellow rapper Ice Prince’s Oleku went viral.

Since then he has worked with other top musicians and is seen by many as a talented rapper.

However, in recent times, he seems not to be as relevant as he used to be in the entertainment industry, so it came as a surprise when he described himself as the only rapper in Nigeria at the moment because he is the only one doing modern rap music.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, when the rapper was asked which Nigerian rappers inspire his music, he said that he is the only music artiste in the country doing modern day rap music.

“I am the only rapper in the country right now, so I don’t know what you’re talking about

“I can’t see anybody doing modern day rap music apart from myself. I mean honestly speaking, It’s the truth, It’s just the fact. They don’t do it like I do it”, he said.

Also in the interview, Yung6ix explained that he listens to rap artistes like JayZ, Drake, Lil Wayne and Kanye West, and that they influence his music.

The controversial rapper it would be recalled once reportedly destroyed his high end iPhone said to cost about N525,000 at the time, in a fit of anger.

Yung6ix disclosed that he smashed his iPhone X after someone got him angry. He shared the picture of the phone on Instastory with the caption: “Smashed the X because f**kers pissed me off.”
